Iwentupandsetdownonalogattheheadoftheisland,andlookedoutonthebigriverandtheblackdriftwoodandawayovertothetown,threemileaway,wheretherewasthreeorfourlightstwinkling. Amonstrousbiglumber-raftwasaboutamileupstream,comingalongdown,withalanterninthemiddleofit.
