Moreover:wearetoconsider,thatfromthepresumedgreatlongevityofwhales,theirprobablyattainingtheageofacenturyandmore,thereforeatanyoneperiodoftime,severaldistinctadultgenerationsmustbecontemporary.
Andwhatthisis,wemaysoongainsomeideaof,byimaginingallthegrave-yards,cemeteries,andfamilyvaultsofcreationyieldingupthelivebodiesofallthemen,women,andchildrenwhowerealiveseventy-fiveyearsago;andaddingthiscountlesshosttothepresenthumanpopulationoftheglobe.
Wherefore,forallthesethings,weaccountthewhaleimmortalinhisspecies,howeverperishableinhisindividuality.
