IsawbeforemeavastmultitudeofsmallStraightLines(whichInaturallyassumedtobeWomen)interspersedwithotherBeingsstillsmallerandofthenatureoflustrouspointsallmovingtoandfroinoneandthesameStraightLine,and,asnearlyasIcouldjudge,withthesamevelocity.
Anoiseofconfused,multitudinouschirpingortwitteringissuedfromthematintervalsaslongastheyweremoving;butsometimestheyceasedfrommotion,andthenallwassilence.
ApproachingoneofthelargestofwhatIthoughttobeWomen,Iaccostedher,butreceivednoanswer.
