RecallwhatItoldyouabove.AllbeingsinFlatland,animateandinanimate,nomatterwhattheirform,presenttoourviewthesame,ornearlythesame,appearance,viz.thatofastraightLine.

Andwhereverthereisanydangerofimposturewecannottrusttothismethod.
Amongstourlowestorders,thevocalorgansaredevelopedtoadegreemorethancorrespondentwiththoseofhearing,sothatanIsoscelescaneasilyfeignthevoiceofaPolygon,and,withsometraining,thatofaCirclehimself.
Asecondmethodisthereforemorecommonlyresortedto.

LetnotmyReaderhoweversupposethat"feeling"iswithusthetediousprocessthatitwouldbewithyou,orthatwefinditnecessarytofeelrightroundallthesidesofeveryindividualbeforewedeterminetheclasstowhichhebelongs.
Longpracticeandtraining,begunintheschoolesandcontinuedintheexperienceofdailylife,enableustodiscriminateatoncebythesenseoftouch,betweentheanglesofanequal-sidedTriangle,Square,andPentagon;andIneednotsaythatthebrainlessvertexofanacute-angledIsoscelesisobvioustothedullesttouch.

Enoughhasbeensaid,Itrust,toshewthatRecognitionbyFeelingisnotsotediousorindecisiveaprocessasmighthavebeensupposed;anditisobviouslymoretrustworthythanRecognitionbyhearing.
Stillthereremains,ashasbeenpointedoutabove,theobjectionthatthismethodisnotwithoutdanger.
