Findingusdistinguished,asanation,byourloveofathleticexercises,thelittleman,intheinnocenceofhisheart,devotedhimselfimpromptutoallourEnglishsportsandpastimeswheneverhehadtheopportunityofjoiningthem;firmlypersuadedthathecouldadoptournationalamusementsofthefieldbyaneffortofwillpreciselyashehadadoptedournationalgaitersandournationalwhitehat. Ihadseenhimriskhislimbsblindlyatafox-huntandinacricket-field;andsoonafterwardsIsawhimriskhislife,justasblindly,intheseaatBrighton. Wehadmetthereaccidentally,andwerebathingtogether.
