ThereareveryfewLondonpeople,asIfancy,whohavenotattendedatthesemeetings,andallwithatasteformoralizingmusthavethought,withasensationandinterestnotalittlestartlingandqueer,ofthedaywhentheirturnshallcometoo,andMr.HammerdownwillsellbytheordersofDiogenes’assignees,orwillbeinstructedbytheexecutors,tooffertopubliccompetition,thelibrary,furniture,plate,wardrobe,andchoicecellarofwinesofEpicurusdeceased. Evenwiththemostselfishdisposition,theVanityFairian,ashewitnessesthissordidpartoftheobsequiesofadepartedfriend,can’tbutfeelsomesympathiesandregret.
