Butthoughvirtueisamuchfinerthing,andthosehaplesscreatureswhosufferunderthemisfortuneofgoodlooksoughttobecontinuallyputinmindofthefatewhichawaitsthem;andthough,verylikely,theheroicfemalecharacterwhichladiesadmireisamoregloriousandbeautifulobjectthanthekind,fresh,smiling,artless,tenderlittledomesticgoddess,whommenareinclinedtoworship—yetthelatterandinferiorsortofwomenmusthavethisconsolation—thatthemendoadmirethemafterall;andthat,inspiteofallourkindfriends’warningsandprotests,wegooninourdesperateerrorandfolly,andshalltotheendofthechapter.
