Thetrees—trunks,branchesandleaves—wereallofsolidgold,whilethebushesandunderbrushwereformedoffiligreesilver,virginpure. Thetreestoweredashighasnaturalliveoaksdoandwereofexquisiteworkmanship. Onthegroundwerethicklystrewnpreciousgemsofeveryhueandsize,whilehereandthereamongthetreeswerepathspebbledwithcutdiamondsoftheclearestwater. Takenalltogether,moretreasurewasgatheredinthisMetalForestthaniscontainedinalltherestoftheworld—ifweexceptthelandofOz,whereperhapsitsvalueisequaledinthefamousEmeraldCity.
