Thereweremanyrequestsfrommylittlecorrespondentsfor“moreabouttheWizard.” ItseemsthejollyoldfellowmadehostsoffriendsinthefirstOzbook,inspiteofthefactthathefranklyacknowledgedhimself“ahumbug.” Thechildrenhadheardhowhemountedintotheskyinaballoonandtheywereallwaitingforhimtocomedownagain. Iamsorrythekittenwasnotaswellbehavedassheoughttohavebeen;butperhapsshewasn’tbroughtupproperly. Dorothyfoundher,yousee,andwhoherparentswerenobodyknows. Ibelieve,mydears,thatIamtheproudeststorytellerthateverlived. ManyatimetearsofprideandjoyhavestoodinmyeyeswhileIreadthetender,loving,appealinglettersthatcametomeinalmosteverymailfrommylittlereaders. Tohavepleasedyou,tohaveinterestedyou,tohavewonyourfriendship,andperhapsyourlove,throughmystories,istomymindasgreatanachievementastobecomePresidentoftheUnitedStates.
